1963년, Ada Louise Huxtable은 The New York Times의 최초의 전임 건축 평론가가 되었습니다. 그 전까지 건축은 영화의 대중적인 비평 문화를 거의 갖지 못했습니다. 오랫동안 건축은 전문가들의 언어 안에 머물러 있었습니다. 하지만 건축은 우리가 가장 자주 마주하는 예술입니다. 우리는 도시를 걷고, 건물 안에 머물며, 어떤 공간의 감각을 떠난 이후에도 오래 기억합니다.
지난 몇 년 동안 한국에서도 건축을 둘러싼 담론은 점점 많아지고 있습니다. 새로운 건물이 빠르게 생겨나고, 도시의 풍경도 계속해서 바뀌고 있습니다. 그러나 그 변화에 비해, 건축을 경험한 사람들의 언어로 축적된 기록은 아직 충분하지 않습니다.
ARCHIWIKI는 (매우 매우) 열린 아카이브입니다. 누구나 '건축'을 등록하고, 리뷰를 남기며, 자신의 언어로 건축을 기록할 수 있습니다. 영화와 음악, 책에 대해 우리가 이미 가지고 있는 '의견의 문화'를 이제는 건축에도 확장하고자 합니다. 건물 역시 그렇게 이야기될 가치가 있기 때문입니다.
ARCHIWIKI는 세 아카이브로 구성됩니다. BUILDING ARCHIVE는 직접 방문하고 체험하며 스스로 판단할 수 있는 실제 공간들을 다룹니다. (또는 미실현 프로젝트를 다룹니다.) 전 세계의 다양한 작품을 대상으로 하며, 누구나 작품을 업로드하고 자신의 경험을 바탕으로 평가하고 기록할 수 있습니다. 다른 하나는 BOOK ARCHIVE 입니다. 건축가들이 사고하고 논쟁하며 세상을 바라보는 방식을 만들어온 텍스트들을 모읍니다. 국내외 도서를 여섯 가지 범주-이론 및 철학, 역사, 비평 및 에세이, 도시 및 조경, 모노그래프, 도면 및 참고자료-로 나누어 정리합니다. 출판 연도는 초판 기준으로 통일합니다. 마지막으로 STUDIO ARCHIVE는 학교와 학년에 관계없이 누구나 자신의 설계 작업을 업로드 할 수 있으며, 커뮤니티의 비평 코멘트를 통해 공개적으로 논의됩니다. 우리는 건축이 이 모든 영역 속에서 함께 만들어진다고 생각합니다.
In 1963, Ada Louise Huxtable became the first full-time architecture critic at The New York Times. Before that, architecture had almost no culture of public criticism. For a long time, it remained locked inside the language of experts. Yet architecture is the art we encounter most often. We walk through cities, inhabit buildings, and carry the feeling of spaces long after we leave them.
In recent years, discourse around architecture has grown in Korea as well. New buildings rise quickly, and the city keeps changing. But the record — written in the language of those who actually experience these spaces — remains thin.
ARCHIWIKI is a (very, very) open archive. Anyone can add 'architecture,' leave a review, and record it in their own words. We want to extend the culture of opinion we already have around film, music, and books to architecture as well. Buildings deserve to be talked about the same way.
ARCHIWIKI holds three archives. BUILDING ARCHIVE covers real spaces you can visit, inhabit, and judge for yourself. (Or unrealized projects.) It spans works from around the world; anyone can upload and review based on their own experience. BOOK ARCHIVE collects the texts that have shaped how architects think, argue, and see — organized across six categories: Theory & Philosophy, History, Criticism & Essay, Urban & Landscape, Monograph, and Drawing & Reference, with publication years based on first editions. STUDIO ARCHIVE is open to anyone, regardless of school or year, to upload their own design work and have it discussed openly through community critique. We believe architecture is made across all of these.
